Are you all looking forward to Valentine’s Day? I know I am. I’m looking forward to being wined and dined by my young man and then to joining all the chatters at communitykink.com at LDW’s Valentine’s Day party. I hope you realise that of course, even though we now call it “St Valentine’s Day”, it’s actually a pagan holiday? The christians stole all of our best holidays and traditions! For instance the Romans celebrated a holiday on February 14th to honour Juno Fructifier, the goddess/queen. In one ritual, women would submit their names to a common box and men would each draw one out. The two would be a couple for the duration of the festival (and sometimes – I suppose if they liked each other enough – for the following year). Both rituals were designed to promote not only fertility, but Life itself. Sounds far more interesting than a card and a bunch of flowers!
