Recently I’ve been having some discussions about the art of Shibaru or, perhaps more properly, Kinbaku. I’m no expert on it but I’m fascinated by the ritual and spiritual aspects of this art. That got me thinking about ritual in general. I suppose you could say I’m big on ritual. I’ve always thought that the Japanese and the English have a lot in common – particularly with regard to ritual. (I’m not just talking about tea here!) I think that ritual is very important and particularly in femdom. As some of you will already know, my style of femdom tends to lean towards the more subtle gestures. More to do with tone of voice than what is being said. I like to set the tone with visions of texture, of ambience; music and fragrance can add so much to a scene. Recently, I was chatting idly with some friends and, for some reason, we were all talking about what we had eaten the previous evening. (Women will tend to do this. I don’t know why.) When I said I’d eaten beans on toast (a great British staple as many of you will know) one of my friends said “It may only have been beans on toast but, knowing you, I’ll bet you ate it off the finest china” and she was right – I did. These small rituals are so important. That’s why, on the rare occasions that I drink tea, it must be from fine bone china, and loose tea – not tea bags (uugh!), the cream for my coffee comes from a small glass jug – never a carton. I used to eat a macrobiotic diet, and still practice many of its “rituals” – never eat off plastic or styrofoam, for instance, and never eat with someone you dislike.
Regarding serving a Mistress. There is no shame in service. Shame would only come from serving badly. The act of kissing the feet of your mistress is purely symbolic – another of those small rituals that mean so much. Perhaps you feel that you serve someone “unworthy”? Then try even harder to give the best possible service you can. No task is too menial – all service is noble. Even a Mistress serves by being the best possible Mistress she can be for her slave.
These are rather random ramblings on a complex subject, but I would be interested in hearing from you – perhaps generating a discussion on the subject of ritual and service. I’m always happy to read your comments and opinions – on any subject. Perhaps some of you can invent some rituals to surround the art of cocksucking, for instance? Bukkake also comes to mind…
